Young Talents Escoffier
Sharing knowledge, training young people and instilling in them the basics of our profession are in the Escoffier Spirit that each Disciple undertakes to respect.
The Auguste Escoffier International Culinary Grand Prix competition, organized by the fraternal cooks of Nice and the Disciples Escoffier International for professionals since 1960, gave the idea in 1970 to our association to create a competition for young people from hotel schools.
In 1971, under the patronage of the City of Nice, the rectorate of the Alpes Maritimes and the Ecole Hôtelière de Nice, 4 candidates competed to create recipes for the culinary guide on the theme of turbot and beef tenderloin.
A few years later, French delegations of Disciples Escoffier launched regional competitions to encourage young people to discover Auguste Escoffier.
It was not until 2003 that the President of the Disciples Escoffier Pays France, Michel Receveur, proposed to the masterful council of the international association, to launch an annual cooking competition for young people under 25 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of association.
The Young Talents Escoffier competition was born.
This competition, which will celebrate its 17th edition in 2021 in Nice, has become international and has opened up to the room trades to recall the collaboration between Auguste Escoffier and César Ritz.
Each year, 8 teams from all over the world, made up of a chef and a waiter under 25yo, compete in our international final.
Faced with the growing popularity of the competition, regional and national selections are scheduled each year and 5 zone selections determine the participants in the international final.
The latter is made up of:
2 teams for zone France
2 teams for zone Europe
2 teams for zone Asia Pacific
1 team for zone Américas
1 team for zone Africa Indian Ocean
The international final takes place each year in a city alternating once between France and once a country in the world, member of the Association Disciples Escoffier International.
The last finals were held in Barcelona in 2015, Strasbourg in 2016, Paris in 2017, Zurich in 2018 and Bordeaux in 2019.
In 2020, the International final was due to take place in Shanghai but it was canceled following the Covid 19 epidemic.
In 2021, it will take place in Nice during the world congress of Disciples Escoffier who will honor their Master on the occasion of the 175 years of his birth.
